2017| Oil on canvas

Floating through the calle of Venice, I allow myself to be lured into the romance and mystery of its mazes...

The Yosemite summer

The Yosemite summer

2016| Oil on canvas, 20" X 20"

The sun swirls away, making way for the moon.
The water dives into the pool as the hills watch this play.

The sky,the sea

The sky,the sea

2016| Oil on canvas, 20" X 20"

The ripples on the water mirror the clouds in the sky. So different yet so much alike the sky and the sea are boundless.

Rubies and Sapphire

Rubies and Sapphire

2016 | Oil on canvas, 24" X 36"

I have been greatly inspired by the works of Monet. I enjoyed capturing the appearance of the sea under the light of the sun.

The sea and the sky look like colors being mixed on a pallette. The swirl of colors make you wonder if the sun is rising or setting.

Light and the leaves

Light and the leaves

2016| Oil on canvas , 24”X 36"

As a little girl, I accompanied my mother on horse riding trips in the jungles of Kashmir. The rays of sunlight filtering through the tall trees fascinated me. The play of light is something I love to capture on my canvas.

Autumn

Autumn

2016| Oil on canvas , 24”X 36”

This tree stands in all its  splendour of the fall colours. It is reminiscent of the Chinar tree in Kashmir. Inspired by my father’s work, the tree is graceful as it transforms to welcome the freshness of spring.

A moonlit rendezvous

January 2015 | Oil on canvas, 30"x24"
On a cold January night while driving from Big Sur to San Francisco. I was inspired by the moon in its full glory, bathing the ocean in its silver. The hills withstand the great force of the waves, turning the silver to gold.

The mysterious passage

The mysterious passage

April 2015 | Oil on canvas, 30" X 24"
The canvas beckoned me to paint the image I dreamt of. As I painted, the canvas spoke to me. Encouraged me to create the mirage of a world that exists beyond the passage.

Emerald in the sea

Emerald in the sea

2015 | Oil on canvas, 36" X 24"
The dancing waves of the ocean speak differently in its many moods.

The warm embrace of the calm waves leaves the rock longing for more as the wave slowly slides away.

Carmel by the sea

Carmel by the sea

2015 | Oil on canvas, 36" X 24"

The wave comes aggressively towards the waiting rocks, angry that she has to make the journey. Yet, she passionately embraces the rock telling us about the dark depth of their relationship.

The artist dips the brush into her soul to depict the different moods of the sea.

The drama of light

The drama of light

Oil on canvas, 24" X 20"

I have always been inspired by Rembrandt’s work and try to achieve the same depth of light in my paintings.

The way the sunlight spills dramatically through the dense forest creates flickering shadows and silhouettes- almost as if the light is playing across the canvas.

Someone once said that it feels like a bucket of sunlight has been spilled over the path.

The ruby hills

The ruby hills

2016 | Oil on canvas, 20" X 16"

The Ruby Hills is inspired by one of my father’s paintings which he created in the early 70’s. The sunlight plays hide and seek with the hills, colouring them yellow and orange.

The valley after fall

The valley after fall

2013 | Oil on canvas, 20" X 16"

Johnny my pet chiwawa loved me more than I loved myself. He ran freely enjoying the spectacular views of the Freemont hills. In and out of sight,he played in the grass.. Just before sunset, as I called him back home,he did not respond. I looked for him and called out but came no reply… I sat on the grass watching the sunset, waiting for him to come back …….

Waterfall and the orange sky

Waterfall and the orange sky

2016 | Oil on canvas, 36" X 36"

The mighty rocks part to let the waterfall take the stage.

My fascination with water started with this painting. The water danced as I played with the tones, textures, darkness and light.

I  discovered a new style.

The colours of spring transport you to the poppy fields of Tuscany.

The poppy fields run long and far to embrace the sky and become one.

The Fremont hills stand beautiful in the sunset. As if a ray of sunlight cuts through the green meadows making a path, rushing to color all the hills golden.

Emerald hills

2005 | Oil on canvas, 48" X 48"

The setting sun urges me to capture it on canvas.

The sun gives the grass one last soak in its light, until they meet at dawn. Painted Au Plein Air at the Fremont hills.

Starry lights

Starry lights

2005 | Oil on canvas, 48" X 48"

A meteor lights up the night sky. The brightness makes the forest look like a single entity, guarding the patch of grass shining under the spotlight.
